The Raptors are Back in Wheaton on Oct 15

Artist Joanne Miller, GreenWheaton and Community Partners Montgomery Parks and the Wheaton Urban District invite you to join us for a morning of photography with birds of prey. Adventures with Raptors will introduce you to live owls and hawks. Joanne will provide camera tips for photographers of all ages. Bring your camera, family and friends. Cameras will be available to use with ID.

  • Artist Talk: 9:00 AM  
  • Bird Photography: 9:00–11:00 AM 

This event is free and open to the public of all ages.

Directions and Parking: Sunday free parking in County Parking Garage 45 (located on Amherst Ave next to Veterans Park) Wheaton Metro Station one block away

Join us in Wheaton on Friday, September 16th as we turn the intersection of Grandview Ave. and Reedie Dr. into an urban oasis!

‘Shifting the Paradigm’ designed by Maki Kawaguchi

For one day, we’re turning parking spaces into mini-parks and green spaces.  They will feature:

  • Native plants and seating (enjoy your lunchbreak outside!)
  • Kids activities
  • Displays on environmental programs like energy reduction, water protection and trees
  • Information on local groups and community resources
  • Displays on transportation alternatives

Volunteers Needed this Saturday to Move Wheaton Garden

We need help re-planting our native garden!

Saturday April 23, 2016
2 PM to 6 PM
as we move the Rainscapes Garden from Parking Lot 13 in Reedie Triangle to Veterans Park.
After 5 years the Rainscapes Garden will have a new home during re-development.

Please come out and help us plant natives!
Even if you only have an hour to help, stop by and dig in.
“Native plants provide ecosystem services such as sequestering carbon, cleaning air and water by filtering pollutants, capturing storm water, stopping erosion, building topsoil, providing diversity for insects and pollinators, and connecting humans to their natural world”. 
 
STUDENTS SSL Hours available!
Refreshments will be provided. 
If you have gloves and/or digging tools we encourage you to bring them.

Thank you for volunteering for the annual MLK Day of Service! GreenWheaton will have a registration table by the park recreation building.  Please sign-in and pick up your gloves and trash bag.

Half of Wheaton Market Place Parking Lot to be Temporarily Closed Overnight on December 14 and 15

Overnight on or about December 14 and 15, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s (MCDOT) Division of Parking Management will temporarily close portions of the Wheaton Market Place parking lot located at 11219 Grandview Avenue. Half the lot will remain open at any time to parkers. During the first closure, the western side of the parking lot will be closed from 8 p.m. on or about December 14 through 6 a.m. on December 15. During this time, the eastern side of the lot will remain open, but will only be accessible from Triangle Lane. The ADA accessible spaces will be temporarily located to the east side of the lot.

From 8 p.m. on or about December 15 through 6 a.m. December 16, the eastern side of the lot will be temporarily closed. The western side of the lot will be open to parkers and will only be accessible from Grandview Avenue. MCDOT will be performing a seismic refraction test to determine type, density, age and water content of soils and/or rock as part of the Wheaton Redevelopment Project.  En Espanol
